Free MAP Math Practice Problems by Grade
This page is a hub for free, no-login MAP Growth math practice by grade. Each grade has a short, 14-question check your child can take in a few minutes, with instant feedback and a quick summary by topic. Every question is an original Helix Math question, not a reused official test item.
About these questions. These are original Helix Math questions designed to practice skills commonly assessed on adaptive math assessments such as MAP Growth. Helix Math is not affiliated with or endorsed by NWEA or HMH, and these are not official MAP questions.
Practice by grade
Pick your child's grade to start a free, no-login check:
- Free Grade 5 MAP math practice covers place value and decimals, the four fraction operations, volume, and geometry. Fifth grade is the year fractions turn into arithmetic, the strongest early signal of whether middle-school math will go smoothly.
- Free Grade 6 MAP math practice covers ratios and proportional reasoning, the number system, expressions and equations, geometry, and statistics.
- Free Grade 7 MAP math practice covers proportional relationships, integers and rational numbers, expressions and equations, geometry, and probability. Seventh grade is where math tips toward algebra.
What a worksheet can't tell you
A worksheet, or a single MAP score, tells you how many your child got right. It does not tell you which skills underneath are secure, which are shaky, and which are simply missing. Two children can earn the same score for opposite reasons: one has a solid foundation, the other is one shaky skill away from a wall.
That gap between getting an answer and reliably knowing when to use a method is what we call fluent but fragile. It is why fractions are the fault line for so many kids, and why the average hides the gaps that a single number leaves out.
Before a fall MAP test
Most schools give MAP Growth in a fall window, often late August into September. A fall score leans heavily on the prior year's foundations as much as on new grade-level material. If your child sailed through a grade check here, those foundations are likely solid. If a few questions tripped them up, the summer is the cheapest, lowest-pressure time to firm them up before the school year layers new material on top.
The free Helix diagnostic takes about 30 minutes and emails you a report showing exactly which skills are secure, shaky, or missing, so you know what to shore up before fall.
